Selbusjøen Hotel & Gjestegård
Fredrik Birch b. in Trondheim 1826 bought the property "Havernesset" in Selbu from Thomas Nielsen Bell. Birch opened his general store there, the first in the area before 1860. In addition to storage, his business was extended to include a bakery and a post-office as well as part-time production-, and sales of, millstones.

Fredrik Birch also became a clever farmer and as you can read in historical books of Norway, he was the first in our district to import timothy and fertilizers. His son Paul Birch took over the business in 1898 and continued running it until 1915 when he sold the property to the tuberculosis organization in Selbu. After a considerable extension of the building, they established a sanatorium on the site. From early 1950`s until 1987 the property served as home for elderly people as well as health centre under the direction of the local women volunteer organization for health care services, the local authorities of Selbu and Sør-Trøndelag county council.

When a new health care centre locates in Selbu came into use in 1987 and after considerable rebuilding and extension of the buildings, Selbusjøen Hotell & Gjestegård (Selbujøen Country Hotel) could welcome their first guests in 1988. The hotel, as you can see it today, was completed afther further extensions in 1996-1997 and the spring of 1998. Selbusjøen Hotell & Gjestegård has 58 rooms, 116 beds, 4 conference departments, lounges bar, and a spacious out-door area for several kinds of activities summer as winter.

The hotel was established in 1988 by Toril and Arild Øien who today are hosts, and together with 30 other employees they offer a great choice for seminares, conferences, holiday and leisure!
Activities: Large park, Rowing boats, Barbeque area, Cruise on Selbusjøen with the cruiseliner M/S Jøvra (capasity 50 persons), Excursion to a very old farm.
The hotel is located close to a 9-hole golf course.
